Geographical vocab for Social Studies Final (straight out of Social Studies final review packet).

Penninsula

A landmass surrounded by water on three sides.

Island

A body of land completeley surrounded by water.

Lake

A body of water completeley surrounded by land.

River

A stream of water that flows across land and eventually drains into a larger body of water.

Tributary

A small river which flows into a larger river.

Vegetation

Plant life.

Plain

A large body of flat land.

Valley

An area of low land between two hills or mountains.

Basin

A bowl shaped landform surrounded by higher land.

Isthmus

A narrow strip of land connecting two larger bodies of land.

Strait

A narrow waterway connecting two larger bodies of water.

Delta

Land made of silt left behind from a river as it drains into a larger body of water.
