Describe the important themes from the "War of 1812."
1. Missouri Compromise of 1820 - divided Louisiana Territory between slave and free states. 2. Oregon and Florida become American by threatening war with Britain and Spain. 3. "Monroe Doctrine" - Stated the U.S. will fight to keep Europe out of the Western Hemisphere.
Following the War of 1812 the U.S. began expanding. Describe the process and problems of expansion.
Building the economy through "American System" High tariff, money would be used to build roads. Money would be stored in a National bank.
After the War of 1812 what did the U.S. focus on?
British navy was kidnapping American sailors. The British were still occupying the Northwest Territory and encouraging the Indians to attack American settlers in the Ohio River Valley. Some hoped to get more land.
Why did the U.S. declare war on England in 1812?
Opposed - North thought it was bad for trade. Supported - South and West felt they could get more land and control the Indians.
