dorsal body cavity - subdivisions cranial and vertebral (spinal) cavity
cranial contains brain that is encased by skull

subdivion of dorsal body cavity
vertebral cavity contains the spinal cord* that is enclosed by the bony vertebral column

*the spinal cord is a continuation of the brain

ventral body cavity - subdivisons thoracic cavity & abdominopelvic cavity
thoracic cavity & subdivisions contains the lungs and the heart, which is protected by the rib cage

lateral & medial mediastinum

medial mediastinum (thoracic cavity) encloses the heart and surrounds the esophagus. trachea, and other thoracic organs
abdominopelvic cavity & subdivision is separated from thoracic cavity by the diaphragm, a dome shaped muscle.

inferior part of abdominopelvic cavity contains some reproductive organs, bladder and rectum

frontal plane (coronal plane) the frontal plane is a longitudinal plane that divides the body into anterior and posterior parts
transverse plane runs horizontally, dividing the body into superior and inferior parts
