| Distal | Refers to a part farther than the part being compared to from the torso. |
| Superficial/Peripheral | Close to the skin or surface. |
| Deep | Describes internal parts. |
| Sagittal section | Refers to a lengthwise cut that divides the body into equal left and right portions. |
| Traverse section | Cut that divides body into superior and inferior portions. |
| Frontal section | Cut that divides the body into anterior and posterior portions. |
| Epigastric region | The upper middle portion. (the middle portion refers to the section inbetween the lungs and the pelvis) |
| Left and Right hypochondriac regions | The sections on the left and right of the epigastric region. |
| Umbilical Region | The central portion of the middle section. |
| Left and right lumbar regions | The sections on the left and right of the umbilical region. |
| Hypogastric region | The lower middle region. |
| Left and right iliac regions | The sections on the left and the right of the Hypogastric region. |
