public health

is concerned with the health of all people focusing on the health of a population as a whole rather than the treatment of an individual

health protection
disease prevention
health promotion

what are the three goals of public health (the 3 p's)?

primary prevention

is the employment of strategies and agents concerned with preventing or avoiding a disease before treatment is needed. (ex. dh)

secondary prevention

employs routine treatment methods to terminate the disease process and/or restore tissues to as nearly normal as possible; it can also be called restorative care.

tertiary prevention

employs stratgeies to replace lost tissues through rehabilitation.

dental public health

focuses on the oral health care and education of a population with an emphasis on the utilization of dental hygiene sciences.

community dental health

focuses on the oral health care and education of a population with an emphasis on the utilization of dental hygiene sciences for a SPECIFIC GROUP OF PEOPLE
