Terms	Definitions
Photosynthesis	process by which plants use the sun's energy to convert water and carbon dioxide into sugars
Cellular respiration	the metabolic processes whereby certain organisms obtain energy from organic moelcules
Chloroplast	an organelle found in plant and algae cells where photosynthesis occurs
Energy	the ability to do work.
Combustion	the act of burning something
Law of conservation of energy	Energy cannot be created or destroyed
Law of conservation of matter	matter cannot be created or destroyed
Energy pyramid	way of showing how energy moves through a food chain
Carbon cycle	the organic circulation of carbon from the atmosphere into organisms and back again
Chlorophyll	any of a group of green pigments found in photosynthetic organisms
Mitochondria	the organelles in which nutrients are converted to energy
