seminal vesicle

gland that secretes a fluid component of semen that lubricates and nourishes sperm

ejaculatory duct

a short section of the ejaculatory route formed by the convergence of the vas deferens and a duct from the seminal vesicle. It transports sperm from the vas deferens to the urethra

prostate gland

a gland that secretes an acid-neutralizing component of semen

bulbourethral gland

one of a pair of glands near the base of the penis that secretes fluid that lubricates and neutralizes acids in the urethra during sexual intercourse

epididymis

a long coiled tube into which sperm pass from the testis and are stored until mature and ejaculated

a duct that conveys urine from the urinary bladder to the outside and conveys semen out of the body during ejaculation

glans of penis

the rounded, highly sensitive head of the penis that is richly supplied with nerve endings and is highly sensitive to stimulation

prepuce

a fold of skin covering the head, or glans, of the penis

oviduct

the tube that conveys egg cells away from an ovary; fallopian tube

ovary

the female gonad that produces egg cells and reproductive hormones

uterus

the organ where the development of younger occurs; womb

vagina

the birth canal between the uterus and the outside opening. It also accommodates the male's penis and receives sperm during copulation

follicles

clusters of cells that surround, protect, and nourish a developing egg cell in the ovary. It also secretes estrogen

corpus luteum

a small body of endocrine tissue that develops from an ovarian follicle after ovulation and secretes progesterone and estrogen during pregnancy

wall of uterus

a thick muscular wall that supports the womb and is richly supplied with blood vessels

endometrium

the inner lining of the uterus which is richly supplied with blood vessels that provide the maternal part of the placenta and nourish the developing embryo

cervix

the neck of the uterus, which opens into the vagina
