Heredity passing of traits from parents to offspring
Alleles alternate form of that a gene may have for a single trait which can be dominant or recessive
Genetics the study of how traits are inherited through the actions of alleles
Hybrid an offspring that was given different genetic information for a trait from each parent
Purebred an organism that always produces the same traits generation after generation
Dominant factor describes a trait that covers over, or dominates another form of that trait (capital letter)
Recessive factor describes a trait that is covered over or dominated by another trait (lower case letter)
Probability a branch of mathematics that helps you predict the chance that something will happen
Punnett Square a tool used to predict the probability of certain traits in offspring that shows the different ways alleles can combine
Genotype genetic make up of an organism (letter combination DD, Dd, dd)
Phenotype outward physical appearance or behavior of an organism (how it looks/acts- dimples or no dimples)
Homozygous describes an organism with two alleles that are the same for a trait (Dominant DD or Recessive dd)
Heterozygous describe an organism with two different alleles for a trait (Dd)
