function | A predefined formula that performs a specific calculation using the inputs you specify. |
auto calculate | a feature that temporarily performs the following calculations on a range of cells without making you write a formula: AVERAGE, COUNT, COUNT A , MAX, MIN, OR SUM. |
excel table | Data arranged in columns and specially formatted with column headers that contain commands that allow you to sort, filter, and perform other functions on the table. |
comment | a text note attached to a worksheet cell. |
name box | the text box located to the left of the formula bar. |
chart | a graphic that allows you to compare and contrast data in a visual format. |
embedded chart | A chart placed as an object within a worksheet |
chart sheet | a chart that occupies its own worksheet |
plot | to postition data points on a graph |
legend | a key that identifies each of the data series in a chart |
x-axis | the horizontal scale of a chart on which categories are plotted |
y-axis | the vertical scale of a chart on which the value of each category is plotted |
categories | for most charts, these are the information in a worksheet row. If you select multiple rows of data for a chart, you'll create multiple categories. |
tick marks | lines of measurement along the value and category axes |
