alliteration

the repeating of beginning consonant sounds.

idiom

and expression that means something different from what it says specific to certain regions or customs.

onomatopoeia

the use of words whose sounds echo their meanings.

repetition

when a sound work phrase or line is repeated for emphasis.

rhyme

the repetition of sounds at the ends of words.

simile

a comparison between two seemingly unrelated things using like, as, or seems like.

metaphor

a comparison between two unrelated things without using like as or seems like.

personification

giving human characteristics to an inatimate object.

hyperbole

an extreme exageration.
