tensile strength	the amount of stress a material can withstand before it bends or breaks.
load	bearing constructions- stacking and piling
hypostyle	forest of columns
adobe	(sun dried brick) coated with mud plaster
doric column	no base, nothing separating it from the floor below
ionic column	stepped base and a carved capital in teh form of two graceful spirals.
corinthian column	detailed base and a capital carves as a stylized bouquet of ancanthus leaves.
portico	porch
keystone	wedge shaped piece of stone that meets at an angle always perpendicular to the curve of the arch.
buttress	needed to keep walls from falling
nave	(the long cental area) where the people sit
romanesque	round arch
groin vaults	when two barrel vaults are crossed at right angles to each other
bay	dividing up a space into square segments
minarets	decrative slender tower
