What is pain classified as? Acute or Chronic
Chronic Malignant Pain associated with cancer
Chronic nonmalignant caused by a progressive disease disorder or an injury
Intractable Pain a type of chronic pain that is extremely difficult to relieve despite multiple types of interventions
Nociceptive Pain caused by a stimulus due to the damage of normal tissues or has the potential to do so

Peripherally generated pain usually associated with a peripheral nerve injury or degeneration condition

Who puts the standards on assessment of pain in place? JCAHO
Physiology of Pain how pain is transmitted and perceived is still not completely understood
A-delta fibers large diameter, myelinated and can rapidly transport information. Sharp, mechanical and thermal
C- fibers small diameter, unmyelinated, transmit the impulse more slowly and mediate long lasting, burning stinging sensation
What do the primary sensory neurons detect? tissue damage, touch, heat, cold, pain and pressure
