| Bus | A bus network is the simplest topology. All of the computers are linked together on one cable called a backbone. The is sent to the address of another computer and travels down the backbone until it reaches the computer it is being sent to. |
| Star | A star network has all of the computers connected via a switch. Signals are transmitted from one computer to another through the switch |
| Ring | All computers are linked by a ring of cable. A token is passed around the ring ready to pick up data from one computer and carry it to the computer it is being sent to. A signal is then attached to the token, which goes back to the machine that sent the data. |
