| Delta | land formed at the mouth of a river made by deposits of silt, sand and pebbles |
| Desert | dry area where few plants grow |
| Fjord | deep narrow inlet of the sea between high steep cliffs |
| Foothills | a hilly area at the base of the mountain range |
| Glacier | a large sheet of ice that moves slowly down a mountain or over land surface |
| Gulf | part of a ocean that extends into the land, generally larger and more deeply indented than a bay |
| Harbor | a protected place along a shoreline where ships can anchor safely |
| Hill | a small landform that rises slightly above surrounding land |
| Iceberg | a large chunks of ice, that breaks from a glacier and carried out to sea. |
| Island | a body of land surrounded by water |
| Isthmus | a relatively narrow strip of land (with water on both sides) connecting two larger land areas |
| Jungle | dense overgrown with tropical vegetation |
| Lagoon | shallow body of water at the center of an atoll |
| Lake | a body of (usually fresh) water surrounded by land |
| Marsh | a type of land subject to frequent floods with low growing plants |
| Mesa | A high flat land form rising steeply above the surrounding land. A mesa is smaller than a plateau |
| Mountain Range | A row or chain of mountains |
| Mouth | A place where a river empties into another body of water |
| Oasis | a place in the desert made fertile by a steady supply of water |
| Ocean | one of the 4 or 5 largest bodies of water |
| Peninsula | A body of land nearly surrounded by water |
| Plain | a large area of flat or nearly flat land |
| Plateau | a high flat land form that rise steeply above the surrounding land larger than a mesa |
| Prairie | Temperate grasslands of North America with few or no tress |
| Rainforest | Forest that receives a great amount of rain |
| Reef | A ridge of sand, rock or coral that lies near the surface of a sea |
| Reservoir | A natural or artificial lake used to store water |
| River | A natural stream of liquid usually water, flowing towards an ocean lake or another stream |
| River Basin | All the land drained by river and its tributaries |
| Savanna | A grassland containing scattered trees |
| Sea | A large body of water usually salt water, connecting with an ocean |
| Source | The place where a river or stream begins |
| Strait | A narrow waterway or channel connecting two larger bodies of water |
| Swamp | lowlands with more underwater vegetation than a marsh that often floods |
| Timberline | an imaginary line on mountain above which trees do not grow |
| Tributary | a river or stream that flows into a larger river |
| Tundra | A vast treeless plain, usually cold |
| Valley | A long depression in the land that usually contains a river |
| Volcano | An opening in the earth through which lava, gases and ash erupt |
