Anesthesia a drug that will cause general or local insensibility to pain and other sensations
General anesthesia a state of total unconsciousness resulting from anesthetic drugs (as for a major surgical operation)
Local anesthesia Loss of sensation to a limited area
Regional anesthesia Loss of sensation in an area of the body supplied by sensory nerve pathways.
Embolus A clot that breaks lose and travels through the bloodstream.
Thrombus a stationary blood clot
Dehiscence separation of wound edges
Evisceration wound separation with protrusion of organs
Hematoma a localized swelling filled with blood
Hemorrhage Excessive bleeding; bursting forth of blood
Sanguineous bloody drainage
Serosanguineous fluid drainage com-posed of serum and blood.
Serous clear drainage
Purulent producing or containing pus
Phlebitis inflammation of a vein
Pressure ulcer Inflammation, sore, or ulcer in the skin over a bony prominence.
Phantom pain pain or discomfort felt in an amputated limb
Pneumothorax air in the pleural cavity caused by a puncture of the lung or chest wall
