Popular Sovereignty	The idea that we the people have the right to rule ourselves
Preamble	The Into to the constitution-states the purpose of the constitution
Separation of Powers	The idea that the government should be split between 2 or more independent entities; each branch has seperate but equal powers.
Elastic Clause	Gives congress the power to make all laws necessary and proper for carrying out the work of the government
Federalism	The idea that powers are split between national and state government
Concurrent Powers	Powers shared by both the state and national government
Delegated Powers	Powers given to the National Government
Reserved Powers	Powers given to the State Government
Checks and Balances	Minimize the risk of one branch becoming more powerful than the others
