Mongol Conquest (1279-1368)
The greatest in China's History. Came from Mongolia into Central Asia, traveled across Asia and reached Europe. The Mongols ate dairy and the Chinese did not. Genghis Khan took over most of Northern China and his sons also took over the east and west after he died.
Temujin united Mongol tribes and other people and in 1206 got the name Genghis Khan meaning "Universal Ruler". He died in 1227
The Empire was divided into four large khanates (parts) in Persia, Central Asia, Russia, East Asia.
Genghis Khan's grandson became the Great Khanand moved the capital to Beijing. In 1271 He became the emperor of China and created the Yüan Dynasty. He had taken over the southern part of China as well. He began to rebuild the Grand Canal and building water control projects such as dams and dikes along the Yellow River. They made for classes: 1st class the Mongols themselves, 2nd class other non-Chinese, 3rd class the Northern Chinese, 4th class the Southern Chinese who was the majority of the population.
The vast lands controlled by the Mongols experienced this general peace.

The Ming Dynasty (1368-1644)
A buddhist monk named Zhu Yuanzhang (Hong Wu) organized a rebellion to get the Mongols out of Beijing in 1368 and became the first Emperor of the Ming Dynasty. He made his capital Nanjing. He encouraged resettlement in the northern part of China. He was often cruel, but effective. Yong Lee He later rebuilt Beijing as his capital. He build the Imperial Palace in Beijing and named it the Forbidden City

Qing Dynasty (1644-1800)
The Manchus from Machuria invaded the capital to oust the rebels and create the Qing Dynasty. They didn't like change and kept the same doctrine, government, and social pattern as the Ming Dynasty. The Manchus did keep their own culture, wore different clothes, and ate different foods like dairy which the Chinese did not like.

This group organized attacks against both Chinese Christians and foreigners. They performed exercises that they thought would make them immune to bullets. In 1900 they almost killed 250 foreigners. An international relief force of American, French, British, German, Russian, and Japanese troops.
