| Berlin Airlift | This was a joint effort by the US and Britian to fly food and supplies into West Berlin after the Soviet blocked off all ground routes into the city. It lasted 11 months and carried 2.3 million tons of supplies into the city. |

| Warsaw Pact | An alliance between the Soviet Union and other Eastern European nations. This was created in response to NATO. |
| Mutually Assured Destruction | A doctrine of nuclear war which stated that both sides in a potential conflict had great enough forces to nearly guarantee the destruction of both sides in the event of nuclear war. MAD. |
| Arms Race | A competition between nations to have the most powerful armaments. |
| Sputnik | The world's first space satellite. |
| Space Race | A competition of space exploration between the United States and Soviet Union that occurred during the Cold War. |
| Proxy War | A war instigated by a major power that does not itself participate, instead relying on others to do the majority of the fighting. |
