Monarchy | A form of government in which supreme power is held by a single person who usually inherits authority for a lifetime |
Republic | A form of government in which people elect representatives to exercise power for them |
Arts | Beautiful or thought-provoking works produced through creative activity such as painting, music, or writing |
Competition | Doing something with the goal of outperforming others or winning something Ex. campaigning to win an election |
Compromise | An agreement to settle differences in which each side agrees to give up part of its demands |
Customs | Long-established practices or traditional ways of behaving that people pass down from one generation to another Ex. shaking hands in greeting |
Ethnic | Relating to a group in society that shares distinct cultural traits such as race, language, or religion |

Database | A collection of related information stored in a computer and organized for convenient access |
Irrigation | A supply of water brought to a dry area, especially in order to help crops grow |
Migration | Movement from one place to another, such as from one region or country to another |
Capitalism | An economic system based on the private ownership of companies, and distribution of goods in a free competitive market for profit |
Classical | Relating to ancient Greek or Rome or their culture |
Empires | A group of nations, territories or peoples ruled by a single authority |
Feudalism | A legal and social system that existed in medieval Europe, in which men called vassals or lieges entered into a mutual obligation with a lord (usually for military support and mutual protection) and the lord granted them land |

Paleolithic | The early part of the Stone Age, when early human beings made chipped-stone tools; from 750,000 to 15,000 years ago; "paleo" means old and "lithic" means stone |
Primary Source | A first-hand account of an event, or an artifact created during the period of history that is being studied Ex. diaries, photographs |
