# Forces and Friction

## 20 terms

a push or a pull

### Newton

unit used to measure force (N)

### Net Force

the combination of all of the forces acting on an object

### Forces in the Same Direction

When forces are acting in the same direction, you add them together to get the net force

### Forces in Different Directions

When forces are acting in opposite directions, you substract them to get the net force

### Balanced Forces

When the forces on an object produce a net force of 0N, the forces are balanced and there is no change in motion

### Unbalanced Forces

When the net force on an object is not 0N, the forces on the object are unbalanced and will produce a change in motion/direction

### Friction

A force that opposes motion

### Sources of Friction

Downward force and roughness of surface

more friction

more friction

less friction

less friction

moving friction

### Types of Friction

Sliding, Rolling and Fluid

### Sliding Friction

two surfaces in contact that are moving against one another

### Rolling Friction

one object rolling over another

### Fluid Friction

An object going through gas or liquids
