anagen 1st stage of hair growth, during which new hair is produced.
arrector pili muscle located in the hair follicle; when it contracts the hair stands straight up, causing goose bumps.
barbae folliculitis Infected Inflammation of the hair follicle; ingrown hairs due to shaving. Pseudofolliculitis is inflammation of hair follicles without the infection.
catagen Second transition stage of hair growth; in the catagen stage, the hair shaft grows upward and detaches itself from the bulb.
