How do we learn fear?
Through conditioning and observations of others
*E.g., fearing strangers after seeing your mom fear strangers
*E.g., fearing knives after bad experience.

What are phobias?
When peoples fears fall outside of the average range. They have intense fears that interrupt with their daily life.
What is psychic blindness?
Saying you don't see/experience the emotion, but responding accordingly
What is catharsis?
Emotional release. In psychology, the catharsis hypothesis maintains that "releasing" aggressive energy (through action or fantasy) relieves aggressive urges.
Does catharsis work?
Generally no. Outbursts can reinforce angry behavior, thus making us react angry to less intense situations over time.
*Can be temporarily calming if it doesn't leave us guilty or anxious
How should we deal with anger?
Research shows that you can either wait and calm down, talk things out in a constructive way, or forgive others.
*Can calm down by reading, exercising, writing, etc.
