What plants are monocots? Monocots have flowers in multiples of three, they have leaves parallel and straight, and they have one cotyledon. EX: corn and wheat
What are dicots? Dicots have flowers in multiples four and five, they have leaves any which way, and they have two cotyledon. EX: maple tree, apples, oranges.
What are vascular plants? They are plants with stems, roots, and leaves. They also have vascular plants. EX: club mosses, horsetails, and ferns
What are non vascular plants? They have rhizoids, stalks that look like stems, leaflike green growths, and spores. EX: mosses, liverworts, and hornworts.
Ancient seedless plants turned into what substance Coal
What did plants evolve from? Green Algae
Characteristics of Vascular, Nonvascular, Flowering, and Seedless Plants. Vascular plants have vascular tissue, larger than other plants, leaf, roots, stems. Nonvascular plants are smaller, have rhizoids, no leaves, roots, or stems. Flowering plants have flowers, roots, stems, and leaves. Seedless plants have spores.
Mosses are held in place by what? What plants have jointed stem structured? Rhizoids and horsetails.
What are the first plants to grow in new environments? Pioneer Species
Roots, Stems, and Leaves Roots supports the plant, absorbs water and materials, and stores food. Stems transport food and water, and support the plant. The leaves make food for the plant.
What is the earliest stage of peat? What is the oldest tree? Decaying plants in bogs or marsh, and the oldest tree is the Cooksonia which is a ginkgo.
What makes tangled fibers in the cell walls? What plants are the most common on earth? Cellulose and ferns.
Gymnosperms and Angiosperms. Gymnosperms are the plants that seeds are not protected by fruit. This includes:Conifers, Cycads, Ginkgoes, and Gnetophytes. Angisperms are the plants that seeds are protected by a fruit. They are also either dicot or monocot. Like, maples trees, oranges, corn, and wheat.
What are pioneer plants? Vascular plants? What tissue carries food and water? Pioneer plants are the plants that are the first to grow in new or damaged areas. Vascualr plants are the plants that have the system of tubes to carry food and water. Vascular tissue.
Nutrients in Nonvascular plants They absorb them right through the cells, or they are small enough that it does not really need transporting.
What adaptations did plants need to survive on land? They needed roots to anchor them to the ground, and they also needed a cuticle to protect their leaves from harsh climates and the sun.
What are the two classification of seed plants? Why are roots as big as the plant above ground? Gymnosperm and Angiosperms are the two groups. They are as big underground because they absorb food, water, and oxygen, and they store the excess food that could be used for the plant later on, so it needs lots of areas to do so.
Where did flowering plants come from? How do plants conserve water? They came from the seed plants. THey conserve water by storing it in their roots instead of just wasting it.
What do the xylem and phloem do? How do seed plants differ from nonvascular plants? The xylem is the tissue of tube vessels that move water. The phloem is the tissue that moves food from leaves and stems. They differ from nonvascular plants because the seed plants have the source of water from vascular tissue, while nonvascular plants do not.
