Verbal Communication

expressing ideas to others by using spoken words(

Nonverbal Communication

communication using body movements, gestures, and facial expressions rather than speech

Sender

the originator of the message in the communication process

Receiver

the recipient of the sources message

Active Listening

empathic listening in which the listener echoes, restates, and clarifies. A feature of Rogers' client-centered therapy.

Passive Listening

listening role in which the listener does not share in the responsibility nor involve himself in the communication process

Manipulation

the action of touching with the hands or the skillful use of the hands

Coercion

the act of compelling by force of authority

Compromise

an accommodation in which both sides make concessions

Semantic Noise

distractions aroused by certain symbols that take our attention away from the main message

Psychological Noise

internal distractions based on thoughts, feelings, or emotional reactions to symbols

Assertive

confidently aggressive

Nonassertive

not aggressively self-assured, though not necessarily lacking in confidence

Aggressive

having or showing determination and energetic pursuit of your ends
