How is sound produced in a woodwind instrument? | Sound is produced by blowing air into a hollow pipe. The pitch is altered by covering or uncovering holes along the side by fingers or keys. This changes the length of the pipe, the shorter, the higher the sound and vice versa. |
Describe a Flute. | The Flute is cylindrical and held horizontally. The player blows through a mouth-hole which is along the side of the pipe. The flute is the only one of the four woodwinds that has no reed. |
Describe the tone of the flute. | The tone is velvety in the lower register, clear and pure in the middle of the range and brilliant at the top. |
