| fall line | perpendicular to the contour lines to show direction of water |
| hills | depicted by closed rings of contour lines that get successfully smaller towards the top. |
| valley | stretched out groove usually formed by streams or tivers. "V" points upstream |
| ridge | sloping line of high ground. "V" points away from high ground |
| depression | a low point surrounded by higher ground o all sides. depicted by little lines going inward toward lower ground |
| concave slope | depicted by contour lines that are close together towards the top of the terrain feature and are widely spread towards the bottom of the slopw |
| convex slope | depicted by contour lines that are widely spread out towards the top of the terrain feature and are close together towards the bottom of the slope |
