Atria

The upper chambers of the heart

Ventricles

The lower chambers of the heart

Mitral

The valve between the left atrium and the left ventricle

Tricuspid

The vavle between the right atrium and the right ventricle

Artery

A blood vessel that carries oxygen and the nutrient containing blood away from the heart

Plasma

The liquid portion of the blood in which cells are suspended

Erythrocytes

The cells that carry oxygen

Lymphocytes

The cells that fight infection

Lymph

Transparent, usually colorless, tissue fluid

Thymus Gland

Helps develop the bodies immune system

Cardiomegaly

Enlargement of the heart

Cardiovalvulitis

Inflammation of the valves of the heart

Ischemia

Deficiency of blood flow

Pericarditis

Inflammation of the outer sac of the heart

Arteriosclerosis

Hardening of the arteries

Hematocytopenia

Abnormal reduction in the number of blood cells

Cardiomyopathy

Disease of the heart muscle

Lymphadenitis

Inflammation of the lymph glands

Angina Pectoris

Chest pain caused by insufficient supply of the blood to the heart

Aneurysm

Ballooning of a weakened portion of an arterial wall

Fibrillation

The rapid quivering, noncoordinated contractions of the atria or ventricles

Peripheral Arterial Disease

Disease of the blood vessels, other than those of the heart and brain, that affects blood circulation
