the combination of electrochemical cells connected together
an aluminum electrode, a copper electrode, and an acidic solution

### What do electrochemical cells do?

convert chemical energy into electrical energy stored in charges

### Define: Energy

the ability to do work

### Difference between Kinetic and Potential energy?

Kinetic energy: energy a moving object has because of motion
Potential energy: is energy stored in an object

### Define: potential difference *voltage*

the amount of electric potential energy per one coulomb of charge

### Voltmeter

device that measures the amount of potential difference between two locations of charge separation

### Sources of Electric Energy

Friction, Piezoelectric crystals, Photo-electrochemical cells, Thermocouples, Generators

### Two groups of batteries:

Dry: flashlights, potable CD's, watches
Wet: cars, wheelchairs

### Difference of electrode and electrolyte

Electrode: the two terminals of a battery two different materials*
Electrolyte: substance that conducts electricity

the property of any material that slows down the current

### How does resistance affect current?

Higher resistance, slower the current

### Series circuit:

a circuit that has only one path for current to travel

### Rules of series circuit

-sum of voltage loses on the loads equal the total voltage gain
-Current is the same throughout

several paths

### Rules of a Parallel circuit:

-Loads that are parallel have the same voltage
