Definitions

Hadron A type of matter that includes particles of heavy and intermediate mass
Baryon A type of hadron classified as a heavy particle that is made up of three quarks. Includes protons and neutrons
Meson A type of hadron of intermediate mass made up of a quark and its corresponding anti-quark
Magnitude the amount of a calculation, expressed as a number with its unit
Lepton A type of matter made up of very small particles, including the electron
Quark Tiny pieces of matter that make up both types of hadrons
Anti-matter Particles that exist in an opposite state of charge from their counterparts
Up,Up,Down The quarks that make up a proton
Up,Down,Down The quarks that make up a neutron
Vector A quantity having magnitude and direction
Strong Force The force that holds the nucleus together
Electromagnetic Force The force carried by photons
Weak Force The force that holds quarks in place
Scalar A quantity having magnitude only
Gravitational Force The weakest of the four forces
Mass Defect A "loss" of mass that occurs when particles form atoms
Binding Energy A mass defect that is converted to energy to hold the new atom together
