Addiction A physiological or psychological dependence on a drug.
Illicit Drug Use The use or sale of any substance that is illegal or otherwise not permitted.
Overdose A strong sometimes fatal reaction to taking a large amount of a drug.
Psychological Dependence Condition in which a person believes the drug is needed in order to feel good or to function normally.
Substance Abuse Any unnecessary or improper use of chemical substances for non-medical purposes.
Abstinence A decision to avoid harmful behaviors, like sexual activity before marriage, and the use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs.
AIDS A disease in which the immune system of the patient is weakened.
Immune System A network of cells, tissues, organs, and chemicals that fights pathogens.
Appetite A desire, not a need, to eat.

Passive A tendency to give up, give in, or back down without standing up for rights and needs.
Peer Pressure The influence that people your age may have on you.
Analgesics Pain relievers.
Drugs Substances other than food that change the structure or function of the body or mind.
Medicines Drugs that are used to treat or prevent disease or other conditions.
Side Effects Reactions to medicine other than the one intended.
Vaccine A preparation of dead or weakened pathogens that are used to stimulate an immune response.
Advertising A written or known media message designed to interest consumers in purchasing a product or service.

Body Composition The ratio of body fat to lean body tissue, including muscle, bone, water, and connective tissue, such as ligaments, cartilage, and tendons.
