| headline | large type designed to summarize a story and grab the readers attention; extra large font across the top of the front page |
| human interest | element of news that includes people of events with whom the readers can identify; interesting stories |
| inverted pyramid | writing of a news story in which the most important fact appear early in the story and less important facts later |
| lead | the beginning of the story that serves to summarize the story; the introduction |
| breaking news | news that is developing at the moment |
| paparazzi | international group of reporters who compete for stories, usually of a sensational nature (such as celebities) |
| review | form of an editorial written to comment on a play, movie, piece of music, etc. |
| libel | written statements about a person which are not true and damage reputation |
| obituary | brief biography published at the time of a person's death |
| teaser | newspaper announcement, often on page one, which tells of an interesting story elsewhere in the paper |

| underline | smaller headline set under the main headline that is about the same length |
