What are the 3 types of muscles in the shoulder joint? 1) Humeral torque producers
2) Scapulothoracic
3) Rotator Cuff Muscles
What muscles make up the humeral torque producers? Axial skeleton => humerus: pectoralis major(sternal head), lattisimus dorsi
What muscles make up the humeral torque producers? Shoulder girdle =>humerus: pectoralis major(clavicular head) ,biceps brachaii, triceps brachaii, deltoid, teres major, coracobrachiallis
What muscles make up the scapulothoracic muscles? Axial skeleton=>shoulder girdle: Trapeizius, rhomboid major & minor, levator scapulae, pectoralis minor, serratus anterior
What muscles make up the Rotator Cuff Muscles? Supra & infraspinatus, teres minor and subscapularis
How do you remember what muscles attach to the intertubercular groove? There once was a hoare named lattisimus who slept on the floor between 2 majors. The pectoralis brothers on the right and teres on the left.
Do all of the rotator cuff muscles (supra/infraspinatus, teres minor and subscapularis) attach to the greater tubercle of the humerus? No, subscapularis(anterior subscapular fossa) attaches to the lesser tubercle
What's the difference between teres major and minor? While Teres major was screwing lattisimus, teres minor joined the rotator cuffs to live on the greater tubercle
What is the difference between Lattisimus dorsi and teres major? Lattisimus dorsi originates from S5-T6, illiac crest, inferior angle of scapula, ribs 9-12, while teres major originates from only the inferior angle of the scapula
What's the difference between pec majors heads? Sternal: sternum and ribs 1-6 Clavicular: anteromedial clavicle
What is the difference between the biceps brachaii and coracobrachialis? Biceps has a longer lateral head that attaches to the supraglenoid tubercule and both heads insert into the radial tuberosity of the radius not the humerus like the coracobrachialis
What separates the attachement sites supraspinous fossa and infraspinous fossa? The spine of the scapula
Is the deltoid superficial to the Rotator cuff muscles? Yes
What is the difference between Serratus anterior(ribs 1-8, deep) and pectoralis minor(ribs3-5, superficial)? Serratus anterior attaches to the medial border and inferior angle of scapula, while pectoralis minor attaches to the coracoid process of scapula
What's the difference between levator scapulae, rhomboid minor and rhomboid major since they all connect to the medial border of the scapula? Levator scapulae attaches to vertebrae C1-4, Rhomboid minor attacjes to vertebrae C7-T1 and rhomboid major attaches to vertebrae T2-T5
Is the trapezius(Lateral 1/3 of clavicle, Acromion process, Medial End of spine of scapula) attach to the whole spine? No, just C7-T12, ligamentum nochae and posterior skull
