| Island | An area of land that is completely surrounded by water. |
| Isthmus | A narrow strip of land connecting two larger areas of land. |
| Lake | A body of water completely surrounded by land. |
| Mountain Range | A chain of mountains. |
| Peninsula | An area of land almost completely surrounded by water and connected to the mainland by an isthmus. |
| Plain | A large area of flat or gently flowing land. |
| Plateau | A large, flat area that rises above the surrounding land; at least one side has a steep slide. |
| River | Any stream of fresh flowing water, flowing by gravity and flowing from an upland source into a body of water or another river. Perenniel rivers flow all year; intermittent are dry part of the year. |
| Sea | A large body of water, smaller than an ocean. |
| Strait | A narrow stretch of water that connects 2 larger bodies of water. |
| Tributary | A river or stream that flows into a larger river. |
| Valley | A long, low area, usually with a river flowing through it, and often lying between mountains or hills. |
| Desert | An area of land with little rainfall or vegetation. |
| Volcano | A cone-shaped hill or mountain formed by ash or lava; maybe acitve or extinct. |
| Mesa | A high, flat-topped landform with cliff-like sides; larger than a butte. |
| Glacier | A large mass of ice that moves slowly, from higher to lower ground. |
| Atoll | A ring of small islands built up on coral reefs surrounding a shallow lagoon. |
| Rainforest | Dense forest that recieves great amount of rain and stays green throughout the year, can be tropical or temperate. |
