Evaluating Expressions | To replace the variable in an expressions with a number and then solve it. Example 4 + a; a = 5; 4 + 5 = 9 |
Interpreting Expressions | To state what an expression means without solving the expression. Example 4 x (2 + 3) = Two plus three times four |
Operation | A mathematically calculation, the four basic operations are addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. |
Numerical Pattern | an ordered set of numbers, the order helps you predict what will come next. Example: 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 |
Parenthesis | The symbol or symbols (,) in an expression that show which operation goes first. Example: 3 + (2 - 1) |
Bracket | A mathematical symbol that shows what operation goes first in the order of operations. ( ) or [ ]. Example: In 3 x [4+2], 4+2 is the first operation because it is inside the brackets. |
Rule | A standard procedure or pattern followed in a pattern or expression. Example: Pattern - 1, 2, 4, 8, 16. 32 Rule - Double the previous numer |
