What are the levels of organization from largest to smallest? biosphere, ecosytems, communities, populations, organisms, organs/organ systems, tissues, cells, organelles, molecules
What defines an ecosystem? all living and nonliving components of a certain area (eg. deciduous forest, grassland, desert)
What defines a community? organisms inhabiting an ecosystem
What defines a population? all members of a certain species in an ecosystem
What are organelles? functional components of cells
what is the difference between prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells? eukaryotic cells have organelles and prokaryotic cells don't
What is the function of a chromosome? to carry DNA and genes
What is negative feedback? accumulation of product slows the process catalyzed by enzymes
What is positive feedback? accumulation of the product speeds the process catalyzed by enzymes
What are the three domains of classification? Bacteria, Archaea, and Eukarya
What distinguishes the kingdoms of Eukarya? mode of nutrition (production, absorption, ingestion)
What is Natural selection? the mechanism of evolution by which a certain trait is propagated among a population due to its benefits in relation to the environment
What is Inductive reasoning? a derivation of generalizations from specific observations (used to form a hypothesis)
What is deductive reasoning? a flow of logic from general to the specific
What separates a theory from a hypothesis? A theory is more general/on a broader scope and is supported with a greater body of evidence
What is the difference between technology and science? The goal of science is to understand natural phenomena whereas technology uses science to achieve a specific purpose
