National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 | A law passed in 1969 requiring agencies to issue an environmental impact statement before undertaking any major action affecting the environment. |
Environmental Impact Statement | A statement required by federal law from all agencies for any project using federal funds to access the potential effect of the new construction or development on the environment. |
Clean Air Act of 1970 | The law aimed at combating air pollution by charging the EPA with protecting and improving the quality of the nation's air. |
Water Pollution Control Act of 1972 | A law intended to clean up the nation's rivers and lakes, by enabling regulation of point sources of pollution. |
Superfund of 1980 | A fund created by Congress in 1980 to clean up hazardous waste sites. Money for the fund comes from taxing chemical products. |
Endangered Species Act of 1973 | This law requires the federal government to protect actively each of the hundreds of species listed as endangered |
