Acer rubrum Red Maple	tree with one trunk, hard to see veination, spring fruit, deeper green, glossier leaf, generalist but usually sandy soil in MN
Acer spicatum mountain maple	veination very visible, long stem relative to leaf, lowland and swales, multi-stemmed and usually more bushy, fall fruit, white hairs along midrib, clone by layering
Betula papyrifera paper birch	early pioneer, wooly or fuzzy leaves when young and larger leaves, bark can get silvery when older
Diervilla lonicera bush honeysuckle	lancolet leaves, widely spread teeth, opposite leaves, white/light green center vein, distinct fruit at terminus of stem
Linnaea borealis twinflower	opposite leaves glossy, trailing-ish, reddish main stem, single stalk with pink twin flowers, evergreen
Arctostaphylos uva-ursi bearberry	low evergreen, very glossy dark green leaves, woody stem
