Structures of Endocrine System

Adrenal gland, pituitary gland, thyroid, pancreas, ovaries, testes, kidney, small intestine, adipocytes and heart

Endocrine cells

secretary cells that release secretions into the interstitial fluid or the blood (such as hormones)

Exocrine cells

secretory cells that release there secretions into ducts or epithelial cells

Adrenaline

sympathetic nervous system, "fight or flight." Epinephrine.

Hormones

released into blood stream, can travel all over the body to have an effect

Amino Acid Derivatives

1 to 2 amino acids together (Rapid Assembly)

Polypeptide Derivatives

made from proteins (takes longer to build these: made inactive form and as the body needs it, then it becomes active)

Lipid Derivatives

Fat, steroids, cholesterol based

How to decide if it is an Amino Acid

carbon, oxygen and nitrogen
