Vocabulary used in multiplication and division

Multiplication

a mathematical operation, symbolized by ×, that for integers is equivalent to adding a number to itself a particular number of times

Factor

any of the numbers (or symbols) that form a product when multiplied together

Product

a quantity obtained by multiplication (the answer)

Order Property of Multiplication

allows two or more numbers to be multiplied in any order

Divison

an operation used to calculate the number of times one number is contained in another

Dividend

the number being divided

Divisor

the number that divides the dividend

Quotient

the quantity obtained by division (the answer)

Inverse Operations

multiplication and division are the inverse (opposite) of each other

a set of related mulitiplication and division sentences that use the same numbers
