Terms	Definitions
line	path of a moving point through space. implied lines are a series of point that the viewer connects automatically. 5 kinds of lines: vertical, horizontal, diagonal, curved, zig zag 5 variables: texture, width, length, degree of curves, direction
shape and form	used interchangeably in everyday life. outline or boundary around it recognized by its area. geometric or free-form. geometric defined by mathematical formulas free-form is irregular forms have 3 dimensions.
space	the empty are around or in a shape. in is positive space. out is negative space.
colour	derived from the colours being reflected. hue red yellow and blue are primary hues value light or dark tint or shade. intensity bright or dull.
texture	how one thing feels or looks like it would feel if touched,
rhythm	movement by repetition of elements or objects. using negative or positive spaces. 5 types, flowing, random, alternating,regular,progressive.
movement	the way a piece of art flows. a guide or flow to the viewer's eyes.
balance	placement of factors. formal symmetrical. informal asymmetrical.
proportion	size of one factor compared to another.
variety	break from the repetition. difference or contrast.
emphasis	the dominance of one part to another.
harmony	creates unity by stressing similarities of separate ,but related topics.
unity	the wholeness or unity created by the princepals of art. joins together.
