 variable | A letter that stands for a number. 1-1 |
| algebraic expression | An expression that contains at least one variable. 1-1 |
| substituting | The act of replacing a variable with another number. 1-1 |
| evaluate | To substititute numbers for all variables, and then to calculate. 1-1 |
| natural numbers | Counting numbers; 1, 2, 3... 1-1 |
| whole numbers | Natural numbers ( counting numbers) and zero; 0, 1, 2, 3... 1-1 |
