What is the human condition? Are we naturally good or evil? Are we born good but somehow flawed? Why do we suffer?
What is Transcendence? Salvation that can be achieved in this life which leads to a rise above suffering.
What is salvation? How we can end or overcome suffering, and it can occur in this life and/or the afterlife.
What is our destiny? where we go when we die - possibilities are : Salvation, Condemnation (HELL), Rebirth (step toward final destiny)
What are ethics? morals that tell us how to act while living in this world. obeying ethical teachings is important for reaching salvation.
What is revelation? The ultimate reality is revealed to humans through myths. religious experiences, and sacred stories
What is ultimate reality? What created and governs the universe? Is there a God?
What is theistic religion? belief in the existence of god(s) or goddesses
What are nonthesistic religions? religions that do not address the matter of a god (philosophy). They do not deny the existence of a god(s)
understanding of the nature of the universe cosmology
how are humans spiritual beings? capacity for self-reflection and a conscience; ability to ponder their own nature(how we came, why we are here, suffering happens)
what are some examples of ethical teachings? 10 commandments, 8 beatitudes, corporal & spiritual works of mercy, 5 pillars of Islam, parables/folklore within religions, fables
what do religions offer? time tested answers and rich in tradition and community, guidelines to follow, explanations to life's basic questions
what is pantheism? The belief that God is in everything
what are some examples of revelation In the bible( Moses/God in burning bush, Abraham, Noah) and in Enlightenment (Buddha)
what are important categories of creeds and doctrines? teachings on ethics salvation and the nature of the world
how are religious communities effective? they are empowering and strengthen the religion and religious experience
