 Bay | a broad inlet of the sea where the land curves inward. |
| Canyon | a deep gorge |
| Valley | low land between hills or mountains |
| Volcano | a fissure in the earth's crust (or in the surface of some other planet) through which molten lava and gases erupt |
| Delta | a low triangular area where a river divides before entering a larger body of water |
| isthmus | a relatively narrow strip of land (with water on both sides) connecting two larger land areas |
| Island | a land mass (smaller than a continent) that is surrounded by water |
| Peninsula | land surrounded by water on three sides |
| Plateau | a relatively flat highland |

| Source | the place where a river begins |
| Parallel | lines that will never meet, no matter how long you stretch them (like railroad tracks!) |

| Prime Meridian | meridian at zero degree longitude from which east and west are reckoned (usually the Greenwich longitude in England) |
