Define Location. 2 Types of location are ____ and _____. Knowing where you are. Absolute Location (exact position) and Relative Location (Where its located near).
Define Region An area with certain characteristics that make it distinct from surrounding areas.
What are the two types of Regions? Physical Region: (Common landforms or climate)
Cultural Region: An area defined by human traits.
Define Place "What is it like there?"
Define Human-Environment Interaction The ways that humans interact with their environment and vice versa.
What are two ways humans and their environments interact? 1) Humans cut down trees to build buildings.
2) Cold weather forces humans to dress warmer etc.
What are the three types of movement? 1) People Migrate
2) We trade goods
3) People trade ideas and information through tv, telephone etc.
Define Interdependence The dependence of countries on goods, resources, and knowledge from other parts of the world.
Define geography The study of where people, places, and things are located and how they relate to each other.
Nuclear Family Wife, husband, and children
Extended Family Several generations in one household
Culture All of the things that make up a people's way of life.
Social Class Classifying people in a society based on having common cultural or economic status.
Define Technology Skills and tools people use to make thier lives easier.
Explain how latitude and longitude affect one's climate. The higher the elevation and farther away the latitude is from the equator, the colder the climate is expected to be.
What 3 factors affect climate? Latitude (Most Important Factor) , Elevation and Ocean Currents
What are the 4 major landforms? Mountains, Hills, Plains and Plateau's.
How is population growth calculated? (Births+Immigrations)-(Deaths+Emigrations)
Why is there a population explosion in many Underdeveloped/Developing nations? Many of the families there are very large.
What are the 3 reasons for cultural change? (TED) Technology, Environment, and Diffusion
List the 5 major religions of the world Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam.
What are the 4 Economic Systems of the World? 1) Traditional-Money is rarely used.
2) Market-People make all the economic decisions
3) Command-Government makes all the economic decisions.
4) Mixed-Both people and Government make economic decisions. (US Economic System)
Which type of Government do we have in the US? Republic (We elect officials to make decisions for us)
What is the difference between location and place? Locations means knowing where you are. Place is knowing what its like there.
Give an example of the human characteristics of Place The White House
Give and example of the physical characteristics of Place Mt. Everest.

What is the purpose of Government? System of Leadership to maintain order, provide for needs & protection.
What are the three types of Government? Define. 1. Democracy- When people have all the power.
2. Dictatorship- 1 person or 1 group is completely in charge.
3. Republic- We elect officials to make decisions for us.
What is the purpose of Uniqueness of Arts & Literature? Strengthens a cultures identity, encourages pride.
What is the purpose of Religion? Help to answer questions about the meaning of life.

Define Diffusion Movements of customs and traditions from one place to another.
