Trial each repetition of an experiment
Observation information that is gathered through the senses
Data all notes of research, observations, measurements, and experimental procedures followed as part of an investigation
Analysis a detailed examination of a subject
Qualitative Data data that tells how it looks, basic information (subject has blue eyes, etc.)
Quantitative Data data in the form of numerical measurements or notes
Dependent Variable the variable that changes in response to the independent variable (Effect)
Independent Variable a variable that is changed on purpose during an experiment (Cause)
Control Group the test group to which the experimental group is compared; nothing is done to it
Conclusion an explanation of the data that tells what relationship exists between the variables in the experiment or investigation
Diagram/Model Uses pictures to explain or show detail
Scientific Theory a scientific explanation of related observations that have been repeatedly tested and shown to be true over time
Scienctific Law a rule that uses experimental results and observations to describe a pattern in nature
Chart/Table summarizes data in rows and columns
Bar Graph uses bars to show the magnitude of data
Line Graph uses a line to relate two sets of data or show how data change over time
Circle Graph/ Pie Chart divides a circle into wedges to show how parts relate to the whole
Flow chart a series of boxes that show the order of steps or how different steps relate
Scatter Plot Plots a series of points against two axes to show the relationship between two or more sets of numerical data
