Terms | Definitions |

Popular Media | informational materials that share information with the general public (ex. newspaper, magazines, online information) |
Nameplate | a newspaper's name printed largely and in a special font; found near the top of the front page |
Section | the different topics a newspaper is divided into (ex. sports, business, local, etc.) |
Headline | the title given to a story |
Byline | name of the reporter of the article; appears above the article and below the headline |
Dateline | the name of the place where the news event happened; often will include the actual date as well |
Lead | the beginning of the article; answers the who, what, when, why, and how of a story (5W & H) |
Cut | photo or illustration that goes along with a story |
Cutline | Caption describing the photo or illustration. |
Photo Credit | a reference to the source of the photo |
Jumpline | line telling the reader where the story is continued (ex. Go to A5; Continued on C8 |
