Definitions

Physical properties The characteristics of a substance that can be observed or measured without changing the substance. ex.color, texture shape, weight, size.
Physical change A change in a substance that does not involve a change in the identity of the substance. ex. Cutting clay in half, or sculpting clay.
Chemical properties characteristics that can only be determined by a chemical reaction and a chemical change in a substance. ex. Tarnishing
Chemical change Change that produces new substances. ex. burning wood turning into ash.
Signs of chemical change Bubbles, heat, light, smoke, change in color, sound
Density Density is a measurement of the amount of matter present in a given volume of a substance. ex. D=m/V
