Purposes & Tasks of the Family | 1) Reproduction, 2) Development (all areas) of children & adults, 3) Provide basic needs, 4) Provide sense of belonging, personal & social identity, & meaning & direction for life, 5) Foster a value system built on spiritual & philosophic beliefs & the cultural & social system that is part of the identity, 6) Teach members basic life skills, social roles, & to communicate effectively their needs, ideas, & feelings, 7) Provide protective care & support for young, ill, disabled, or otherwise vulnerable members, 8) Provide relationships & experience w/in & w/o the family that foster security, support, encouragement, motivation, morale, & creativity, 9) Maintain authority & decision making, w/ the parents representing society to the family as a whole & the family unit to society, 10) Release family members into the larger society - school, church, organizations, employment etc., 11) Maintain constructive & responsible ties w/ the neighborhood & broader community |
