| Christ | The Greek word for "the Anointed One," or "God's Chosen One." Another way of describing the Messiah or Savior. |
| Elizabeth | The wife of Zechariah the priest, Elizabeth gave birth to John the Baptist in her old age. She and her cousin Mary encouraged each other during their unusual pregnancies. |
| Galilee | the place in Israel where Jesus grew up |
| God the Father | God is Father as Creator of the universe. He is Father as Creator of the human race. |
| Heaven | This is the place where God lives and rules and is with the good angels. It is where Jesus went back to after he left earth, where he is preparing a place for us. |
| Holy Spirit | God’s Spirit, whom Jesus sends to help people. The Holy Spirit is God in invisible form. |
| Israel | The Jewish people, or the land of the Jewish people. |
| John the Baptist | His birth was announced by an angel, He was born to Zechariah and Elizabeth and was a cousin to Jesus. He lived in the desert and prepared the way for Jesus' ministry. He baptized Jesus. |
| Jordan River | A river that flows down from the Sea of Galilee to the Dead Sea. This river plays an important role in the history of Israel.John the Baptist carried on his ministry here, and this is where Jesus was baptized. |

| Messiah | Messiah means the same as Christ. That is, the one whom God chose as Israel's special king. God forgives us because Jesus suffered the punishment for our evil deeds. |

| Son of God | A title applied to Jesus designating alternately either His messianic status or consciousness of filial intimacy with His Father (Mk 14:36; Ro 8:15). It speaks also of Jesus' unity of will with His Father's will. |
