allele | the different forms of a gene |
dominant gene | the gene that over powers the hidden gene |
recessive gene | the hidden gene |
homozygous genes | two of the same gene |
heterozygous genes | two different genes |
co-dominance | situation in which both alleles of a gene contribute to the phenotype of the organism |
incomplete dominance | creates a blended phenotype; one allele is not completely dominant over the other |
sex linked genes | A gene that is carried on the X or Y chromosome |
punnet square | diagram showing the gene combinations that might result from a genetic cross |
probability | the chances that something is going to happen |
genes | parts of a chromosome that control inherited traits |
meiosis | cell reproduction that produces sex cells with half the number of chromosomes as the parent cell |
mitosis | cell reproduction that produces cells that are exactly like the parent cell. body cell reproduction |
