| phenotype | the physical appearance of an organism |
| allele | the different forms of a gene |
| dominant gene | the gene that over powers the hidden gene |
| recessive gene | the hidden gene |
| homozygous genes | two of the same gene |
| heterozygous genes | two different genes |
| co-dominance | situation in which both alleles of a gene contribute to the phenotype of the organism |
| incomplete dominance | creates a blended phenotype; one allele is not completely dominant over the other |
| sex linked genes | A gene that is carried on the X or Y chromosome |
